Ship Shape Dresser (Before & After)
I’m not a big fan of oak. Out of all the woods, it just really isn’t one of my favorites. When I saw this at a yard sale, I couldn’t pass it up.

You see, I fell in love with those brass drawer pulls. They just kind of sucked me right in. I had flashes of campaign dressers that I’d seen on pinterest. Like this:

This piece isn’t an actual campaign dresser, but an Outrigger by Young Hinkle made for children. The best (safety for kids) is that the drawers don’t come out. This isn’t so much fun when you’re painting it. Anyway, there was some great panneling on the side that I thought would look great in nautical stripes.

So I got my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Napoleonic Blue out and started to paint the entire piece except for where I wanted my Old White stripes:
First coat of Napoleonic Blue |
I did two coats of Napoleonic Blue, two coats of Old White and two coats of clear wax. Then I buffed the whole thing. Here is my ship shape dresser now:

What do you think? Is it ship shape and Bristol fashion?

I think it’s totally awesome! I’m not a fan of oak either, but it’s a nice hard wood that paints beautifully. So glad you snagged this one. Love the blue and you had an inspired idea with the stripes. The hardware is beautiful and totally fits the nautical feel too. It’s perfect!
Wow!! What a transformation! You gave that old dresser new life and it looks beautiful! I love the color combination with the brass hardware. Wonderful job!
Gorgeous! I love the nautical look you’ve given this.

Thanks so much. The Napoleonic Blue is one of my ASCP colors. So regal looking.
This looks amazing, Danielle! I love the stripes. I’ve been stalking craigslist (ALL of Mass) for a piece of campaign furniture for like 2 months and I’ve come up with nothing. boo. Today I posted a before/after of a dresser that I also painted blue (more of a teal). I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Hi Danielle! Thanks for your compliments. I know, I’d love to find a campaign dresser too. They look so cool! I’ll pop over to your blog to check out your before & after!
I love it Danielle! I really like the stripes, very nautical and very nice job painting.
