Simple Coastal Mantel
We live a hop, skip and a jump to the beach. I enjoy bringing coastal elements into our home in every season but even more so in summer. Today I’m sharing my simple coastal mantel.
I know what you’re thinking…
It’s summer and she has the fireplace going, but what you may not realize is I’m ALWAYS cold. Ha! Ha! The fireplace is switched on with my morning cup of coffee.
I’m excited to share our simple coastal mantel as part of my good friend Krista’s mantel tour today.
I had originally planned on using beautiful peonies on my mantel. I always find their fragrance heavenly. Unfortunately, Trader Joe’s didn’t have them in and the peonies in our yard are still tightly shut. So, I did try this look with some flowers and leaves my mom sent me for my birthday:
BUT
It just felt like too much. I wanted to keep it super simple.
The flowers and bottles were moved to our built in book case. I used a beautiful driftwood garland on the center of the mantel.
I scattered some of my favorite shells. Some we found on the beach and some I’ve collected from thrift stores. I really have a shell problem. I have soooooo many shells. 😉
I added height on the right side of the mantel with a pretty blue and white vase and some Monstera leaves.
Can you believe these leaves are faux? They’re from Ikea.
There’s just something about blue and white together. Classic, coastal and clean. I shared my favorite blue and white decorating ideas for summer yesterday if you want some more ideas.
I love how simple the shells and leaves look on our mantel. We redid our fireplace in the winter. The stone is called Heartland Stone and is actually fossilized ocean floor.
Those ripples are actually the lapping waves. Have you ever seen the sand at low tide? I love that our mantel and fireplace has treasures from the sea.
The white chairs are usually by the windows but I dragged them over to the fireplace to give you guys a better idea of the room.
Of course, my little Conor, decided to sit right down and enjoy the fireplace 😉
He’s such a ham!
I must admit, I can’t wait for more lazy days like this. That’s my favorite thing about summer. Sleeping in, going to the beach and spending time with my boys and dogs.
I hope this post gave you some simple coastal ideas for decorating your mantel. I’ll include a full source list in case you want to recreate this look below.

So pretty, Danielle! Of course peonies are always gorgeous, but I love what you have created without any flowers – perfect for all season long! I have a driftwood garland just like that – wish I’d thought of it now! Thanks so much for joining me for this series!
So pretty! I love the shells, too.
Gotta get me one of those driftwood garlands. Your mantle looks great. I like flowers, but I love sea shells just as much, if not more. I find the beach so calming, as is your mantle!
If we had a fireplace, I’d totally have it going in the summer too! I’m always cold, and it is just so cozy! Love your beautiful coastal mantel, Danielle! Thank you so much for sharing!
~Abby =)
I completely get being chilly in the mornings and turning the fire on, how lovely! I have throws on the sofa all year round for that exact reason. 🙂 I love your costal mantel, it’s so pretty! xo
Loving all the shells and touches of green and white. It’s definitely been a chilly Spring so I don’t blame you for having the fire on! Come on summer
So pretty, Danielle. I love your beachy mantel and your bookshelf. Your son is a cutie.
Hugs, Jamie
