Spring Mantel 2013
I read somewhere that New Englanders tire of winter in March. This month and last we’ve been hit pretty hard with snow storms and nor’easters. So it is official that we’re ready to move onto spring. My mantel this spring is sunny, white and ready to set sail!
The star of the mantel is the sail boat. My mom found it at Marshall’s and I love the rustic sail and the primitive hull. Isn’t it gorgeous?

I got these old candlesticks at a thrift store and did a wash in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint’s Duck Egg Blue on one and French Linen on the other:

Now they appear to have a bit of a story and a bit of a past! I filled a vase from The Christmas Tree Shops with one of my favorite spring blooms, the iris!
I love the delicate twine and shell against the green stems. I just wish the flowers would last a bit longer. They are just so beautiful.
I’ve filled my candle holder from Target with more shells:
And found this sweet little lantern at Home Goods for only $6:
I couldn’t resist that bargain! Here it is! Just wish spring would arrive sooner rather than later!

A nice breath of spring! I was outside shoveling a foot of wet, heavy snow at 10:30 last night and grumbling the whole time about where the heck spring is…I’m more than ready!
ah…beautiful!

I really love the detail of the shell tied around the vase! We tire of winter in March here in the midwest, too! It was FREEZING today and my boy always wants to leave the house….brrrrr…..
Pretty Danielle 🙂
So fresh and pretty! And I love that sail boat!
