Spring Outdoor Decorating Ideas
The birds are singing, the grass is growing, and it’s time for spring outdoor decorating ideas.
I love the arrival of spring – life seems more optimistic with singing birds and flowers pushing through soil. Here in New England it always takes spring a little while to arrive, but I think it’s here! I’m excited to share my spring outdoor decorating ideas!
This season I’m embracing the joy of color! I usually like everything muted but this year color is my jam. 😉
We went to the garden center over the other week (I always like to wait until the risk of snow and freezing temperatures is gone) and I bought trays and trays of colorful pansies.
Planting window boxes
I filled the shed window boxes with the brightest colored pansies!
I used a few ornamental grasses in the center and hung an old wreath on our little blue door. I might make a new wreath for back here or I may just buy some faux flowers to freshen this one up.
Let’s head around to the front yard for more spring outdoor decorating ideas.
Add a New Wreath
This asymmetrical wreath uses a grapevine base and joyful spring flowers to celebrate the new season. The wreath was made by Ginny Sullivan of G & M Design. I’ve followed Ginny for quite some time on Instagram and had the chance to meet her at her patio sale. She is one talented lady! I knew this beautiful wreath had to come with us. Doesn’t it look pretty against our blue door?
Mix Pansies and Pussy Willows in Vintage Urns
I love to change up our urns each season. I always just get the simple basket pansies and place those in my urns and shove some pussy willows in the center to add height.
Tri-Color Pansies
I always think pansies look like the have smiling faces. I love using them in our window boxes for spring. Honestly, they make me so happy!
This year, I went with tri-color pansies to coordinate with our new wreath. The flowers are a brilliant yellow, pale lavender (as above), and a deep purple.
When planting I always add some fresh soil and plant food to the window boxes. Then I water my plants daily in the morning.
Paint your Door and Shutters in a Pretty Hue
Finally, paint goes a long way! We painted our door and shutters the most luscious high gloss blue. It took me some time to find the absolute perfect color but it was worth it. Our door and shutters are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Buxton Blue in high gloss.
Can you see Max sitting in the window? He’s on top of the couch. If you look closely you’ll see him in the other photos, too.
Our beds have crushed sea shells in them. It’s a nice idea if you live near the coast.
Have you started decorating outside for spring yet? If not, I hope this gave you a few affordable ideas!
Hi Danielle,
Your post has inspired me to get outside and tackle some curb appeal projects. I live close to the coast in New Hampshire, so I really resonate with your design style. I, too, have been searching for the “perfect blue” for my door/shutters. We have a pale yellow colonial and your color just might work for us! I really enjoy your blog and you are a very gifted artist. Thanks for sharing:)
Leah
