Stick On Tiles for the Bathroom

Isn’t it funny how sometimes you can put a little home project on hold and then it becomes a bit bigger to the point where you HAVE to do something? I’m going to share a funny story and more about our stick on tiles for the bathroom.

Here’s our newly tiled half bathroom…

Stick on tiles for the bathroom

Well, I say “newly tiled” but I use both words loosely. I’ve actually been meaning to share this little DIY with you since last June. Those were lily of the valley from our yard. I’m not sure you can actually say we “tiled” when we didn’t use mortar, but stick on tiles.

Before in the Bathroom

Ever since moving into our home (11 years ago) this little bathroom didn’t have a backsplash. Water kept hitting the wall and was starting to damage it, but I just left it. I didn’t do anything except tell Luke I thought we should do something about the area. Then I saw SmartTiles were doing Zellige Stick On Tiles. I told Luke I thought it might be fun to use them for the space. At that point I was thinking of doing the whole wall along the sink and going for a dark blue and dark tiles. Still I didn’t do anything.

That was until Luke hit the rattan waste basket on the down pipe and the pipe let go…

Oooops! It wasn’t his fault. We live so close to the ocean and the salt air is so corrosive. You’ll see we have some rusting on the underside of bathroom cabinet too. So we needed to come up with a quicker option. Luke removed the pipes and the sink from the wall and we patched the areas that were damaged.

DIYs in the bathroom in progress

Here’s what we used in the bathroom:

We opted for that style because we felt it would most compliment the look of our current bathroom. Above is a photo on the floor. We used the existing wall color and repainted the wall and allowed it to cure before placing the tiles on the wall.

You’ll need a cutting mat, a straight edge, and a box cutter to cut the stick on tiles. They are pretty easy to use.

Here’s a peek at placing them:

I think a straight wall would have been a bit easier but we have a corner sink. We ended up using caulking to fill the little gap in the center and along the sink once we installed the sink.

Why Stick on Tile?

Well, we have used it before – in our kitchen.

We opted for stick on tile in the kitchen because we quickly wanted to change the look and we knew at some point we’ll be doing a full renovation. You can read more about installing Stick On Subway Tile in our Kitchen here.

We were so impressed with how they stood up over the years. It really is amazing! We added the subway tiles back in 2016. I wrote a post about how well they stood up. It’s now 2025 and they look just as good. So we thought it just made sense for this bathroom project.

Why Stick On Tiles:

  • Easy
  • Affordable
  • We used them in the kitchen prior and had such a great experience
  • We wanted to get this bathroom project done quickly

We had family coming for John’s graduation so we really wanted to have the half bath back up and running as soon as possible.

The World’s Smallest Bathroom

We have the world’s smallest bathroom! Literally. This room is so small. We have a corner toilet and corner sink AND a stackable washer dryer. I could sit on the the toilet and pull the laundry out of the washer if I wanted to. Ha! Ha!

Here’s a peek:

Luke built me the custom cabinet to hold all my laundry supplies. The starfish roman shade is from Smith & Noble, read more here.

The print above the shelf is of Brandon Hill in Bristol and was gift from our good friend, Gav, for our wedding. The shell was the first one I found when I was little on Cape Cod.

And here’s the “new tiles”:

I’m so happy that the stick on tiles are now protecting the wall and I think they look super cute especially with the lily of the valley.

That IS the smallest bathroom ever!!! Very cute…and I have never seen a corner toilet. I am surprised the washer and dryer are in there. Usually, in older homes it would be on the back service porch….so it would be easy to hang the clothes on the line. I bet when they put in the kitchen seating that was where the refridge was and then moved it to service porch which then the W&D had to be moved. OR could you possibly put the washer and dryer in the basement? Well…after 11 years I am sure you are used to… Read more »
