Summer in the Dining Room
As I write this we’re getting thunder showers and torrential rain. Not exactly the summer I had envisioned.
The boys and I are having the best summer despite the rain. It is lovely to have relaxed mornings where we can take our time to get going or we can just plan the day for how we’re feeling. I know many parents like having their children out of the house but I LOVE having mine home. I really miss them when they aren’t here. I LOVE the noise, the messes they make and generally everything about them. We’re crafting, exploring and reading lots this summer. We’re also looking forward to a family trip to Spain for a family reunion with Luke’s family. I think I might be taking those two weeks off from everything – blog, social media etc, but I’ll be sure to take loads of photos when we get back.
Anyway, I had planned on doing a full summer home tour, BUT there is still mulch and soil in our driveway for gardening projects (all which I’ll be blogging about soon) and my living room is filled with furniture to go to Kjeld Mahoney’s Gallery in the harbor. So the house isn’t camera ready. Ha! Ha!
The dining room is though:
Above is an angle you don’t often see. A view of our built in china cabinet that I love. You may remember we papered the inside on our anniversary last year. Click here.
I’ve been dying to get my hands on Maiden Hair Ferns and found some at the Vintage Bazaar at Fleurish’s booth. Hooray. The planters are from Flowers & Festivities in Scituate Harbor.
For me summer is a time to relax, to throw convention to the wind and let my imagination run wild.
Things can be thrown together. Aren’t the best parties and summer BBQs unplanned?
In a way this tablecape was thrown together in that same spirit. I came back from The Vintage Bazaar with a few treasures and some air plants and this happened.
The milk glass plant stand was from Matthew Mead. Isn’t the color gorgeous? I shared an interview him the other day click here if you missed it.
Air plants are playful on driftwood and in barnacles.
You may remember the placemats I stenciled for my indigo tablescape, click here.
Soft and welcoming and ready for the sun to come out.
Hoping you’re all having a wonderful summer too!

i’ve been on the search for maiden hair ferns too!! obsessed with their wispiness!
I’m curious about the air plants. I’ve seen them around but don’t know the first thing about them. By the way…my thumb ranges from brown to black when it comes to plants. It used to be a light green but not in the past few years.
