Summer Outdoor Living (Cozy Living)
Summer by the sea is wonderful. We spend so much time outdoors, which also means cocktails by the pool and late night swims. I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of our summer outdoor living.
This is the first Saturday of the month which means it’s time to share some Cozy Living hosted by my friend Jennifer over at Town and Country Living.
The other day I made classic piña coladas to enjoy by the pool. They were fabulous if I do say so myself.
Wonderfully creamy and refreshing. They made a lazy afternoon turn into a impromptu evening by the pool.
The fresh pineapple mingled with creamy coconut and crushed ice was simply perfect. Since making these I’ve also done them other fruits. I replaced the pineapple with frozen mango cubes and frozen sliced peaches and it was a luscious combination.
We love to keep things simple here. We’ll throw a couple of cheese burgers on the grill, bring out a chef’s board where everyone can pick and choose their favorite meats and cheeses. I also make an assortment of salads – tossed green salad and creamy potato salad.
Fairy lights along the fence set a magical ambiance. I like turning them on at dusk before the sun has dipped below the horizon. Don’t mind the weeds 😉
My mom will be mad I shared this photo but I just love it of her. It captures our simple and relaxed life here by the sea.
On the table are simple pansies in a wood basket. You can see our oldest eating pita chips. You can read more about our teak sets here, our Adirondacks here, and more summer decorating ideas here.
Nothing is perfectly styled. Just thrown together.
Towels strewn on loungers, ready for our youngest son when he gets out of the pool.
Our dogs, Max and Poppy, running around the yard.
This is my favorite way to relax at the end of the day. A cocktail, the view of the pool, my family, and a great grilled dinner. In my opinion, it’s better than eating at 5 course meal at an award-wining restaurant.
I love the slower summer rythmn. Sometimes it takes us a few weeks to get into the summer routine, but now that it’s here I don’t want summer ever to end.
I think we all feel the same way, the dogs included…

I love, love, love your beautiful yard, Danielle and I agree that summer is the absolute best! I am starting to get into the rhythm of summer myself. I grew up on Cape Cod and have a small summer place there now so I share your love of coastal living :). Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your fun and carefree summer life.
Thank you, Christine. The Cape is such a beautiful place to grow up. We’re really enjoying this slower pace with our kids and dogs.
Love the chef’s board.
Tell me more about faith lights!!!!
Elevtric? How to hang? Where to hang? Best brand to buy? Help!
Hi Nan, these are outdoor fairy lights, I bought them at Target last year. These are the lights we used (affiliate link): http://bit.ly/2Yyn7oq We bought white and used cable ties to attach to our fence. We left the lights up through the winter and they are still working this summer. These are electric. We also have ones by Smith and Noble from Target on our back deck. It adds the perfect magical ambience to summer evening.
Super! Perfect pictures of your dreams coming together…Love Max abd his cameos ! Here’s to a long lovely summer in slow motion ! Very sweet to see your mom’s picture who looks wonderful….
We are back from Florida but afraid we brought the extreme hot weather with us. Heat index the day we left was 106°.
In your case pool and ocean weather…Much happiness.
Thank you, Beverly, this pool and yard was a dream come true for our family and we’re out there whenever the weather is good. Today we’re supposed to get storms but swam on the 4th and the 5th. The pool water is now in the 80s. Bring that hot weather here! Ha! Ha!
PS: I revisited you Boat Club evening blog too. Today as it was then originally written and spoken , the words of JFK are so rich and true. When I reread them I actually could here his voice in my head . I was in 6th grade when he was elected president and in 9th grade when he went to Dallas.
That is one of my favorite quotes. He visited my mom’s high school before he ran for president and she still remember she was when he was shot. So sad.
A simple meal with drinks around the pool sounds just wonderful!
It really is the perfect way to spend a summer evening.
It does sound like a peaceful way to spend a day, sitting and watching your family.
It’s my favorite way to spend my time. xx
Danielle, you have the idyllic summer life! Love your pool and I too would rather have a cocktail by the pool than dinner at a 5-star restaurant. You’re making wonderful memories for your family!
Danielle, your backyard pool area is just gorgeous. I am totally with you on skipping the 5 course for the simple menu . hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer. sadly my kiddos go back in 3 weeks.
