Summer Sunroom
Soft woven textures, white floors, blue ceiling, and coastal breezes through walls of windows! Welcome to our summer sunroom!
School is almost out! As I write this only a half day is left for my kids. There’s something special about summer here on the shore. Warm days and summer possibilities seem endless. Time slows down, the temperature heats up and the, possibly the biggest, decisions we need to make are which one of our town’s seven beaches should we go to today?!? Or should we swim in the pool? One of our favorites spaces is our summer sunroom!
I shared a glimpse of this space as part of our summer home tour. Click here if you missed it. Today I’m excited to share more images and sources with you.

Our sunroom is the room on the first floor, which overlooks the pool and yard. I often sit out here and paint watercolors and read. I love hearing the birds singing.
Last month, Mahoney Brothers Construction installed this sliding door and it makes the space even brighter:
When our home was built in 1927 this room was actually a screened in sun porch with a screen door in the front. The Stewart family made this a three season room and Luke and I are making it a four season room. We added insulation underneath and our electrician will be adding heat next month. I’m currently on the hunt for a 15 pane glass door to replace the window over by the table to make it a door into our front hall. If anyone local has one laying around, please get in touch!
As we update it into a four season room I might end up changing the furniture slightly. I love this old pedestal table that I painted several years ago. You can see more about that here and here. The thing is it’s kind of too big for the space (especially if we put a door there). I’m thinking of maybe replacing the long table with a love seat and replacing the wicker chairs with comfy chair BUT I haven’t found anything just right yet.
The old oars were a freecycle find and I painted them with chalk paint. Click here for that tutorial and see how we hung them here.
The giant clam is so much fun for summer decorating. I’ve filled it with succulents, plants, and now have my collection of fishing floats inside.
The wicker chairs were from Ikea probably about 7 years ago. They actually don’t sell them anymore. I painted that old cabinet with milk paint.
My peonies are in bloom and I love clipping them and bringing them inside to enjoy!
I’m loving this seaside poetry book and candle from my friend Amy’s shop – Oldfield Society.
We painted the floors in this room a few years ago and I’m so impressed how well the paint has stood up with dogs and boys! I do usually keep a mat by the door and wipe the dogs feet when they come in.
The simple wind chimes are from Joye in Scituate Harbor and incorporate all the blues and greens I love so much!
Branches from the yard are clipped and fill a simple vase. The oyster shell votive were a gift from my mom (I think she got them at Marshalls). We have many family meals here or sip coffee with the paper on Sundays. Currently all my watercolors are strewn across the table.
Speaking of watercolors you might want to check out this post or visit our online shop.
It isn’t a huge room but it’s big enough to really enjoy it.
Here’s a glimpse from the other side of the of the room:

Wonderful and beautiful space. What are the dimensions of your porch?
Thank you, Eunice. Our sunroom is 18 ft 7 inches by 7 ft 2 inches. So long and narrow which can be awkward for furniture layout 😉
I just love all your ideas and the fact that so many are affordable and mix old with new . My only issue is that as a Canadian married to an American but living in Canada I cannot get all items. But we do have ikea and others and the inspiration helps a lot.
Hi Liana, I love mixing old and new and more expensive pieces with more affordable. I bet you have some great vintage and antique stores up there. I always start with old pieces first when hunting 😉
As always, everything is beautiful. We had a room like this in our last home. It was an old Victorian house and originally it was a porch. Former owners made it four seasons (even digging a cellar under it) and it was always my favorite room in the house. Your room reminds me of it. Well done!
