Sunroom Inspiration
Okay, this is a really exciting post today! Today, we’re talking about my inspiration for the sunroom.
As you know our sunroom is one of our favorite rooms in the house. It over looks the expansive side yard and has windows on all the walls except exterior house wall.
Here is the view from outside:
See lots of windows, lots of ocean breezes…
Anyway, I’m not sure if you remember Poppy and the skunk…
In case you don’t, Poppy, our sweet little dog was sprayed by a skunk in March. I can laugh now (well, a little bit), but at the time. Oh, god. It stunk. Pun very much intended.
Poppy came in the sunroom and after being sprayed, she rubbed her whole body and face all over the rug. Blood and skunk smell was everywhere. We removed the rug and sanded the floors. Thanks to my Poppy girl we get to plan out a “new” room!
I’m always happy to do that. So maybe the skunk was a blessing in disguise.
Here are some rooms that inspire me!
These little dogs are so sweet and I love the feeling this room gives. The light blue ceiling, the white walls. Comfy, cozy and coastal:
I’m in love with the color of the ceiling on this porch. In love, I tell you!
How cute would a porch swing be?!? It would be cute until Conor and John go sailing out the window.
I love the dining nook in this photo. A round table would be perfect in our sunroom since it is such a long and narrow room. This shape would allow for an eating / crafting area but also give space for some comfy chairs.
Aren’t those gorgeous spaces?!?
So here’s what I’m thinking for our sunroom:
This room is an unheated three season room, so I’ve weighed this in my inspiration. The rug definitely needs to be durable and indoor / outdoor because of the elements. I’m loving this one from Ikea (1. in the photo).
Being a coastal home, you can’t do coastal with some oars. I love these from Pottery Barn (2. in photo), but we’ll probably put the oars we had in our old kitchen up.
The walls will be white, I’ve chosen Benjamin Moore’s Simply White (3. in photo) because it is so clean and crisp, almost like the sail on a boat. The color in the sunroom before was almost a yellow white and I want something very crisp. Keeping this in mind, the trim will be Super White by Benjamin Moore.
Guess what color the ceiling will be! Come on guess?!? Gosh, you people know me so well. Of course, blue! I’ve selected Benjamin Moore’s Ocean Air (4. in the photo). I want it to feel like the sky is above you in this room, but also feel very coastal and soft. A restful room to read, to write, to laugh and play!
An indoor outdoor light is essential in this room! I really like the look of Lamps Plus’ galvanized lights (5. in the picture). They are indoor / outdoor so should withstand the elements.
Finally, these woven chairs from Ikea (6. in the picture). I’ve wanted these chairs forever. No, really forever. I love the weathered look to them and the soft white cushions. I can picture curling up on these with some good design magazines or a Jane Austen novel over tea on a rainy day.
Gosh, I shouldn’t be thinking of rain when I’m telling you all about my coastal room, but that is the wonderful bit about this room. If the weather is too bad or buggy, you can be inside and still feel like your outside.
So that is my inspiration. What do you think?!? Will be sharing more of our progress in the room next week!
Well Danielle, clearly great minds think alike … I have a paint chips spread all over the floor in my sunroom and I’m thinking white walls and blue ceiling! I love the fresh coastal look. And it will be absolutely perfect for your sunroom. Can’t wait to watch your room unfold. You know you’re living in my dream house, right?
I bet your room is going to be beautiful! I love all of your inspiration photos and the colors you have chosen for your room.

I am so in love with my enclosed porch! This is the first summer we have gotten to enjoy it. (last summer was filled with renovations) I didn’t realize it was such a big tradition to paint porch ceilings blue, I painted my floor blue. Just about the same shade. Right now I am working on wicker furniture and cushions. Looking forward to seeing what you do!
Beautiful room Danielle!!!
I remember many yrs back our dog was sleeping just inside the screen door to the slider in our dining room when a skunk snuck up on the deck. They startled ea other and the skunk sprayed directly into the house….made my eyes burn. Had to pack the babies and go to a hotel for the night. We need to refinish the floors too.
Lovely. Just lovely. I am totally inviting myself for lemonade in your sunroom!
Love it all Danielle! It’s going to be amazing. We have a little rental cottage on the ocean in NS and I painted the bathroom in Ocean Air – its a wonderful seaside colour! Can’t wait to see it all come together! Wendy xx
I redid my old falling apart porch on my 1905 home. New columns, new box gutter and new molding details, it is so pretty. I painted the ceiling bead board a beautiful pretty sky robins egg blue. I love it each and everyday; it makes me happy. I wish I could post a photo for you. Please do paint yours in a blue you love you will not be disappointed. Yes I have a porch swing also.

Hope the link works, it shows my porch and how pretty it is.
I am of the opinion that your home is awesome, love the style. Is your home a cape cod style? Sorry if I’m terribly wrong. Just love how it looks. Think if we had a screened in porch I’d spend my whole day/night out there. Would be so nice. But first I’d love just to get a pergola over our back deck. It’s so blasted hot on our deck it’s like an oven. We have a great view from our deck also, over most of the area around us since we’re up on a little hill. Love your post, dream… Read more »
