Sunroom Reveal
I partnered with Benjamin Moore for this post. They provided me the paints and floor stain to make this room into the one I was dreaming about. All thoughts and opinions (and love for Benjamin Moore) are my own!
Please join us for a celebratory brunch! The sunroom is finished!
But before we get on with our celebrations, perhaps, we should take a look at the “before”. I took this photo the night before we moved in…
I wasn’t a fan of the berber carpeting for an outside room. It had lots of stains on it, but the previous owners told us there were wood floors underneath. So we stored that information and we thought we’d do this room eventually.
Eventually, came a whole lot sooner when Poppy was sprayed by a skunk….
The carpet absorbed the odor and blood stains from our poor dog…
Luke and I ripped out the carpet to find the floors underneath. They were wood alright, but LOTS of water stains and dark green / gray paint on top. I wondered if we were doing the right thing… But the rug had to go…
The whole room needed paint. Lots of it…
Oh, and new baseboard. We ripped up the strip that was there when we removed the rug…
We did a lot in this room. First we removed the rug and sanded the floors. You can read about that here. We then painted the ceilings probably the most beautiful shade of blue. Ever. The color is Ocean Air by Benjamin Moore in a soft gloss finish.
The walls were painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White, flat finish. Here you can see the difference the brighter and clean white makes to the walls. The previous color was a little more yellow and I wanted the walls a coastal white to remind one of the sails shimmering in the harbor just down the road.
The trim is Super White by Benjamin Moore in the same soft gloss finish as the ceiling.
Alright, let’s get on with the pretty photos, shall we?!? Please come on in through the garden and step inside and join us for our little celebratory brunch.
I picked up some lovely warm, croissants from French Memories just for you.
Oh, I warn you now, that I took LOADS of photos in this sunroom reveal.
A jute rug as you step inside floats on our driftwood floors.
A beautiful yucca enjoys the sun. Conor keeps calling it our palm tree…
You may hear the boys giggling over checkers.
Or you may enjoy the fragrance from blooms from our garden –
Take a seat and enjoy the ocean breezes. These chairs were my birthday gift!
Oh, you fancy some juice. Please help yourself.
This room is all life at the beach should be. Soft, simple and serene. A place to reflect and surround yourself with your quiet thoughts and dreams.
The boys are excited to “camp” out here this summer. I promised them they could sleep out here with the soft ocean air.
This is also doubling as my summer office. I’ve been writing out here. I’m actually typing this in the sunroom right now.
The new baseboard and paint has made such a difference. The floors have brightened the space and given it that coastal feel.
So has the new light Lamps Plus sent me. I adore the rustic galvanized finish against the shimmering blue ceiling.
It is even pretty at night with the Edison bulb glowing as the sun sets.
The room is done in soft whites, blue, grays. Washed over floors, walls, and furniture.
Vintage furniture has been given a second chance of happiness. I’ll be sharing the makeovers of these pieces with you soon in another post.
So please enjoy some macaroons and our new coastal sunroom.
I think it just might be my favorite spot in the whole house.

A perfect post, Danielle. You’ve done a great job of making us feel as though we’re actually there in the room itself. What a beautiful space, it looks great – you’ve certainly all been working hard to ensure it’s just right.
Perhaps one day you’ll get hold of a Distinctive Chesterfields wing back chair too, or comfy footstool!

I love this room Danielle! We have a breezeway between the house and the garage but I’ve always wanted a sunroom! It must be so nice out there for most of the year! I didn’t see the dimensions of the room, did you mention those? I just love the wood floors, the color you chose for the ceiling, it just looks amazing! I have always dreaded skunks but this turned out to be a positive thing after all.

CONGRATULATIONS on a spectacular job on the sunroom. Seems like you had just shown us the room after the skunk and dog had a go at it. Love your b/d present, awesome chairs. That light I’ve been seeing a lot lately, would love to have it in our kitchen after we paint cupboards. The light looks incredible on sun room ceiling. Aren’t you the fancy pants. You must be so happy with your sunroom, great place for your boys to play and so nice for breakfast any meal at your table which is awesome. Where did you get that rug?… Read more »

Even if driftwood was not your first choice for these floors, you gotta admit it fits the room perfectly! Thatta girl, Poppy, we in blogland owe you alot;) I can’t even decide what is my favorite thing in this space…the jute rug and the navy and white rug both look amazing against the floors, that new lamp is awesome, the ceiling color is just so whimsical, the pop of the blue of the table… Read more »
Your sun porch turned out fantastic, what a lovely job, you must be so very pleased. It looks larger and brigher and I like the way you have put a small table at one end, perfect for lunch with your girlfriends. Everything about the space works. I would love to sand back my reddish brown wood floors and white wash them but can’t quite get my husband on board yet…all he is seeing is ‘hard work’. The exterior of your home is also so very pretty, It looks New England style…I love it! Thank you also for your comment on… Read more »
Danielle, you did an amazing job on the sunroom. I love the coastal style. It’s right up my alley!
Danielle,
Love that color on your ceiling so much! It is in the tradition of painting your porch ceiling “haint blue”.
I also love the floor. Will have to read how you did that! Enjoy your lovely sunroom. I am saving your ceiling paint color for my screened in porch which does not need painting right now. but will later on.
Blessings
Your home is so charming! I love coastal cottage style. Your sunroom is so cozy & just the perfect relaxing coastal retreat. Great transformation!
This looks awesome! I love the floors so much and the oars are perfect in there!! I’m getting very close to starting on ours (paint and floors too!) How did you partner with Benjamin Moore if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi Danielle! The finished sunroom looks fabulous! I have been following the progress from when you started removing that carpet. I was wondering if you could share what you used to hang your oars? I love the way it looks and we have a pair to hang that have been sitting in the corner for awhile. I also saw you over at the Inspire Me Please party-congrats on the feature!
Love, love, love, love this space! Did I mention that I looove this space. You’ve inspired me to add some cute storage for games and toys to our upper outdoor deck… Thanks for sharing!
Featured your light fixture at Sundays at Home this week 🙂
