Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you had a lovely weekend. We spent our’s bringing some items down to my space at Main Street Antiques in Plymouth and enjoying the lovely weather at Norris Reservation in Norwell with some friends.
I have a fun makeover for you today! This antique pine chest had been in my son’s room for quite some time, but we replaced it with a larger pine chest that we got at the Brimfield Antique Market. So thought it would be fun to paint this one and try and sell it. This is the before:
Pine Chest (Before)
Nothing wrong with it at all. It has solid bones and I love the darker stain, but really didn’t like the yellow toned pine.
So I got my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint out and mixed a custom color. I did Napoleonic Blue mixed with the lovely Aubusson, a muted French Blue. The details were painted in ASCP Paris Grey. ASCP clear wax was applied to the whole piece except the top and knobs. I applied dark wax to the grey trim and details:

It really brought out the beautiful carvings that were lost in the yellow pine:

I love the dark rustic top and the original knobs.
I really think the blue and grey mix gives this chest a nautical look. Perfect for a boy’s room!
Here’s some more images of the finished piece, the side pannel:

What do you think of the color combination? These old pine chests really say New England to me. I’m hoping someone down in Plymouth falls in love with it.
