On the Tip of My Paint Brush (Launch)
You guys I feel like it’s Christmas morning! I am so excited!
My first book, On the Tip of My Paint Brush: Painted Furniture Techniques is launching TODAY! It will be available at Noon EST and delivered straight to your inbox.
This is a pie in the sky dream for me!
Even before I started my blog 5 years ago, I wanted to write. As a girl I wrote poems and short stories, constantly scrawling in journals. Being a mom with two young children I wanted a creative outlet which is how Finding Silver Pennies began.
This journey began out of a necessity; a tight budget, old furniture in need of TLC and a desire to create. It has turned into my dream. I LOVE finding old pieces of furniture or taking something Luke’s built and transforming it with paint. Our latest collaboration are the faux soapstone bedside tables he built for our bedroom which are actually MDF on top:
Paint is magic in a can, it can take a sad piece of furniture and make it gleam to be loved once more. Our home is filled with painted pieces and over the years I’ve been lucky enough to paint furniture for friends and clients, have my painted furniture showcased in magazines and in galleries and in August I’ll be teaching an advanced painted furniture techniques class at Haven Blog Conference in Atlanta. I feel very lucky.
Here’s another image from a makeover and is one of my top pins:
All the while this idea of a book on everything I’ve learned over the last 5 years percolated in my head. I started writing last spring, dribs and drabs here and there. I guess I had a lot to say as the final book is 154 pages. Ha! Ha! 😉
I remember a time when I didn’t know the first thing about painting furniture. I didn’t know what paint I should use or what a top coat was or that sanding or priming or cleaning might help. When we bought our first home I had never even painted a room before! My point is that we all start somewhere. Shortly after starting the blog I discovered Chalk Paint®, then Milk Paint and General Finishes and now Fusion Mineral Paint. I discuss all in the book.
On The Tip of My Paint Brush – Painted Furniture Techniques takes a closer look at painting furniture from novice (as I was) to the advanced furniture painter.
Inside I share my tips and tricks that I’ve picked up over the years of painting furniture. I don’t sell paint or painting supplies so this is a completely unbiased look at the paints and products I enjoy and what I think works best for various jobs.
Topics covered in the book are:
- What paints I love
- How to Prep your furniture successfully
- How to Strip Furniture
- What Furniture to Buy and What To Leave on the Side of the Road
- Everyday Products You Can Use to Refinish Furniture
- How to Stain
- What’s the Difference Between Furniture Wax and Poly
- Hands On Techniques with Step by Step Tutorials
- Sources for Furniture, Paint and Hardware
- Before & Afters to Inspire Your Own Creativity
- Techniques include: Faux Finishes, Weathered Finishes, Distressing, Crackle, Decoupage
- Affordable Methods to Create a Home You Love
I’m offering two packages for the book which you can find here. One is the eBook and the other is the eBook with the added bonus of an online community / forum in a private Facebook group where we can share projects, questions, videos and tips. I’m really excited about both of these packages.
As a special launch offer:
the first 50 people will receive 20% off their purchase with the code: letspaint
A huge thank you to all my readers over the years. I’m very proud of this little blog and this book and I’m so happy for this exciting journey. None of it would be possible without you.
An additional thank you to my husband who helped me so much in this process and was the book’s editor. As many of you know “He Picks Things Up and Puts Them Down.” If you paint furniture then you know what I’m talking about. He’s my muscle and I even got him a shirt with this on it for Father’s Day!
I’m so excited to help you discover new products, new techniques and maybe experiment with different styles.
This book takes the guess work out of painting furniture so you can get on with creating a home you love by breathing new life into old pieces. Let me help you personalize your thrifted finds and old treasures.
So grab your coffee and let’s get painting!
If you enjoy the book, I’d be so grateful if you could share with your friends and family too.
congrats and best wishes!
Congratulations!
Congrats on the book and good luck!
