Watercolor Easter Eggs (with video)
I’ve had watercolors on my mind lately. The other day I created Watercolor Easter Eggs and also included a video! I’m so excited to share how to paint these!
Earlier in the week, I shared some sweet watercolor viola free printables. Perfect for spring and Easter. It got me thinking about Easter eggs. I used to love coloring them when I was little.
I thought it would be fun to try and paint sweet flowers and butterflies on some eggs. I find painting so relaxing that I thought this would be the perfect project to share in our Cozy Living hop hosted by my friend Jennifer over at Town and Country Living.
I’ve never taped myself painting before so I thought I’d try that, too.
I’m a visual learner and I thought doing a video might help you guys see the process. My eggs were cold and it might the watercolors bloom a bit. So I’d recommend using room temperature eggs or craft eggs. The video is approximately 15 minutes long and I’ve shared a few variations of pansies and other spring flowers and butterflies. I increased the speed slightly, too.
How to Paint Watercolor Easter Eggs (video)
I thought I’d also break down the steps here if you don’t have time to watch the video.

How to Create Your Own Watercolor Easter Eggs
Materials
- Watercolor Paints (Jane Davenport in Brights and Neutrals)
- Princeton Series Velvet Touch Size 4
- Water
- Hard Boiled White Eggs or Craft Eggs
- Paper Towels
- Gelly Roll Pen (White)
I like using Jane Davenport for these eggs because they’re slightly more opaque.
Method
Step 1 – Make sure eggs are clean and dry. Wet or cold eggs will cause the paint to bloom.
Step 2 – Begin painting flowers. Leave space between flowers to prevent the colors bleeding together.
Step 3 – However it’s lovely to mix colors while wet to create a true watercolor look.
Special Tip – It’s okay for your paints to drip a bit. I know this can feel scary in the process but it gives a lovely “watercolor” look when dry.
Step 4 – Allow paint to dry on eggs and add a second layer for more detail. For example, go back in and add more yellow for the center of the flowers or fine black lines. This is also s great time to add white detailing with a gelly roll pen.
Step 5 – enjoy your eggs!
This is a great project for today or even tomorrow. Kids will also love painting eggs if you have extra time.

Hi Debra, Oh, this made me so happy to hear! Of course, I’ll do more videos for beginners. I started watercolor when my son went into school full time and have loved learned over the last few years. What types of things are you interested in learning about? I also wrote a post on Must Have Watercolor Essentials. I should have mentioned it in this post. Here’s the link to that post: https://www.findingsilverpennies.com/learn-watercolor-must-have-watercolor-supplies/
