Winter Gin and Tonics

Our winter gin and tonics are perfect for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

We really are big fans of G & T in our home. For some reason, they remind me of holidays with Luke’s family in France. The minute I take a sip, I’m transported back to warm Augusts eating roasted peanuts and marinated olives in France.

I’ve loved taking part in Krista’s Seasonal Simplicity Tour and today marks the last one for winter. A bunch of my friends are sharing ideas for New Year’s Eve!

Fresh squeezed orange, lime, and pomegranate arils make for an extra festive gin and tonic.

Maybe it’s just me, but when someone says New Year’s Eve, I instantly think of fancy dresses and sparkling cocktails.

wish I could tell you that we get fancy here and throw a giant party or get invited to something very lavish, but we don’t.

We put on our PJs, have Thai Takeaway, sip Prosecco or cocktails and watch movies and play games with our boys.

This year we’ll be sipping winter gin and tonics.

It's hard to resist these winter gin and tonics with fruit and a sprig of rosemary

These may look hard, but the key ingredient is muddled fruit and sprigs of rosemary.

Delicious orange slices and pomegranate arils make for a festive cocktail

This year, I’ve also become obsessed with pomegranates. I’ve used them in our Christmas tablescape which you can see here and here. I bet your not surprised that pomegranate seeds have made their way into our winter gin and tonics!

Winter Gin and Tonics

What You’ll Need

  • Gin – we used The Botanist Gin
  • Tonic Water – we like to make our own with a soda stream and the tonic flavor
  • Pomegranate Arils
  • Naval Orange Slices
  • Crushed Ice
  • Sliced Limes
  • Sprigs of Rosemary

Fresh fruit and winter cocktails

Method
Slice oranges and limes. Muddle slices of each and put the slices into a glass. I muddled the limes and oranges in a marble pestle and mortar similar to this.

Fill the glasses with crushed ice.
Add approximately 2 fluid ounces of gin and 4 fluid ounces of tonic water.
Stir to combine the fresh fruit juices, the gin and tonic water.
Top with a sprinkle of pomegranate arils and a sprig of rosemary.
Festive winter G&Ts
Your festive cocktails are ready to be served!
Hendricks is my favorite gin but I love The Botanist Gin for these cocktails. The Botanist is gin made on Isle of Islay and it has 22 hand foraged botanicals which are derived from berries, bark, seeds and peels. This flavor comes through in the gin and makes for a lovely winter taste. The fresh lime and orange add a punch of citrus zest while the pomegranate seeds add a hint of pink and a nutty, fruity flavor.

The sprig of rosemary has a woody scent that reminds me of winter and evergreen.
Do you think you’ll try our winter gin and tonics this year?
